18-Year-Old Pinned for Batch of Burglaries in Polk County

​An 18-year-old Frostproof resident on the run for over a month was arrested in connection with a batch of burglaries in the area on December 10, 2024, a press release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) states.

Omar Sierra Jr. was already wanted for one crime in the county when deputies caught up with him and arrested him for another.

The original crime occurred on November 9th, where a mini-bike was stolen from a Frostproof residence. During the crime, the victim attempted to stop Omar from taking the mini-bike; however, Omar was able to get away by throwing sand into the victim's eyes.

On December 10th, PCSO deputies were investigating two car burglaries in Frostproof — one of which a Glock 9mm handgun had been stolen from. Investigative means traced the crime back to Omar as the primary suspect.

Detectives showed up in numbers to scan the Lakeview Park neighborhood in search of Omar. At about 3:30 pm, a deputy spotted the 20-year-old on King Boulevard, where he was then arrested.

Omar's mother instructed her son not to cooperate with deputies on the investigation. Likewise, she refused to allow detectives to enter her home to search for the stolen gun. A search warrant was obtained shortly there-after, where the stolen gun was found in Omar's bedroom.

Omar Sierra Jr. now faces charges of Armed Burglary of Conveyance, Grand Theft of a Firearm, Burglary of Conveyance, Burglary with Assault, Unarmed Burglary of a Dwelling, Grand Theft Motor Vehicle, and Tampering with Evidence.
