12/6/2024 0 Comments Biden-Harris Administration and NOAA Announce $100 Million for Coastal Resilience ProjectsThe Biden-Harris Administration, through NOAA, has made up to $100 million available for habitat restoration and coastal resilience projects under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This funding presents a transformative opportunity for Florida, where rising sea levels, hurricanes, and degraded habitats significantly impact local ecosystems and communities. Although the initiative is open to participants across the country, Florida is uniquely poised to benefit from this initiative, given its extensive coastline, reliance on fisheries, and the critical need to restore habitats such as coastal wetlands, mangroves, and coral reefs. These projects aim to safeguard the resilience of communities against climate hazards, such as storm surges and flooding, which are becoming more severe with climate change. NOAA encourages applications from stakeholders, including tribes and underserved communities, to address pressing coastal challenges. Successful projects could involve necessary projects in Florida such as rebuilding coral reefs in the Keys, restoring mangrove forests to protect coastal towns, or enhancing wetlands to improve fish habitats and reduce flood risks. Applications are due by April 16, 2025. To learn more or apply, visit the Transformational Habitat Restoration and Coastal Resilience Grants website.
