On Monday, July 8, Volusia Sheriff’s Office disclosed that a 74-year-old woman, Bethania Germosen, was found face down in the water behind her home in Deltona, Florida. She was discovered by her husband, who alerted first responders and reportedly rushed to get her out of the water. Both deputies and the Deltona Fire Rescue were dispatched at approximately 5:25 p.m. on Sunday, July 7. Upon arrival, Deltona Fire Rescue personnel began initiating life-saving measures, but they were unsuccessful. Bethania Germosen was pronounced deceased at 5:49 p.m. that evening. The deputies’ investigation revealed that Germosen suffered from long-term and recent medical issues, could not swim, and had often fed the turtles and ducks that resided in the lake. An autopsy will be performed by the medical examiner’s office, but no suspicious circumstances or foul play has been observed by the authorities at this time. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office “sends its sincere condolences” to all of Germosen’s friends and family members. Article by Ema Tibbetts
