FDA Issues Warning After 6 Floridians Fall Ill from Recalled Microdosing Products

​The FDA is urging consumers to check their homes for Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, cones, and gummies, following a national recall due to severe illnesses linked to the products. Six people in Florida have reportedly fallen ill after consuming these items, which are suspected to contain dangerous compounds.

Diamond Shruumz products, advertised for microdosing, were found to contain a mix of substances, including muscimol and acetylpsilocin, a psychedelic compound, as well as pregabalin, a prescription drug. These products were available at smoke shops and retailers selling hemp-derived products across the country, despite the recall issued earlier this year.

Consumers who ate Diamond Shruumz products have reported serious health effects, including seizures, agitation, abnormal heart rates, and nausea. In Florida, the six affected individuals are part of a larger group of 180 illnesses across 34 states, with 73 hospitalizations and three possible deaths connected to the consumption of these products.

Though all Diamond Shruumz-brand products were recalled months ago, the FDA warns that they may still be on the market or in consumers’ homes due to their long shelf life. These items should be discarded immediately, and consumers are encouraged to report any stores still selling these products to the FDA.

The FDA has completed testing on samples of the chocolate bars, cones, and gummies, confirming the presence of several harmful compounds. While the investigation is complete, the agency continues to focus on post-incident actions and surveillance to prevent further illnesses.
