According to The Daily Wire, the guidance came from FEMA supervisor Marn’i Washington, who instructed relief workers to bypass homes “advertising Trump” while conducting damage assessments in Lake Placid, Florida. Multiple federal employees confirmed that at least 20 homes with Trump signs or flags were skipped, effectively denying those households the opportunity to qualify for federal aid. Images and internal messages obtained by the outlet showed FEMA workers marking homes with explanations such as "Trump sign no entry per leadership" in their system.

The whistleblower complaint also revealed that the decision to bypass these homes came from a Department of Homeland Security surge capacity force team, comprising federal employees who volunteered to assist FEMA after it faced staffing shortages due to consecutive hurricanes.

The revelations come as FEMA is already facing criticism for its delayed response in other rural areas affected by recent hurricanes, including Roan Mountain, Tennessee, where locals reported waiting nearly two weeks for assistance.

A spokesperson for FEMA expressed shock over the incident, stating that the employee responsible for the guidance has been removed from their position pending a full investigation.
