Carolina Prime Pet, Inc., based in Lenoir, North Carolina, has issued a recall for 400 16-ounce bags of its "Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips" dog treats due to potential Salmonella contamination, according to the FDA release. The recall impacts multiple states, including Florida, where the product was distributed through Hollywood Feed retail locations and online at HollywoodFeed.com. The recalled treats, packaged in purple-and-black bags, bear the lot number 20051324L2 and an expiration date of 11/13/25. This specific lot has been identified as potentially contaminated, although no illnesses have been reported so far. This news comes only one day after another chicken dog treat sold in Florida was recalled. That product, "Gaines Family Farmstead Chicken Chips" were also recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination. The affected 5-ounce bags, marked with lot number 20061124 and an expiration date of 12/11/25, were distributed in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia through online and independent pet retailers. Salmonella poses risks to both pets and humans. Dogs infected with the bacteria may exhibit lethargy, diarrhea (which may be bloody), fever, and vomiting, or show mild symptoms such as decreased appetite and abdominal discomfort. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can still spread the bacteria to humans or other animals. Humans handling contaminated products are at risk of infection, particularly if they fail to thoroughly wash their hands after contact. Symptoms in people may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever, with severe cases potentially leading to serious complications. The affected Hollywood Feed product was sold in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Consumers are urged to check for the lot number and immediately stop using the product if it matches. Consumers who have purchased the recalled treats should contact Carolina Prime Pet at [email protected] or call 828-394-6460 (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM EST) for a refund or replacement. This recall follows contamination identified during third-party testing of a related, unreleased batch. While no illnesses have been linked to this product, pet owners across the affected states are encouraged to take precautions and monitor their pets for symptoms
