Babies are a lot of work. They cry all the time and often refuse to sleep, but hurting or punishing them to make them stop is not the answer. Yet, some parents, including 27-year-old Alexis Hardacre, try it anyway. According to a press release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation into Hardacre started when she took her 18-month-old baby to Brandon Regional Hospital on September 15. The baby had “wounds on the face, neck, and arm, as well as bruising behind the ear and on the right thigh”. Hardacre eventually admitted that she “repeatedly slammed the baby into a crib and restrained him with excessive force on multiple occasions” after “she lost patience when the baby refused to sleep during nap time”. She was arrested on November 18 and charged with one count of third-degree felony child abuse. Hardacre was released later that same day on a $2,500 bond. Sheriff Chad Chronister commented, "This case is gut-wrenching. No child should ever endure the pain and suffering inflicted on this innocent baby”. At this time, the investigation is ongoing.
