Even despite Trump’s strong policies against immigrants, especially those who illegally cross the Mexican border, Florida’s Hispanic voters seemed to turn out in support of him. A poll released by UnidosUS shows the potentially surprising results on how Florida’s Hispanic demographic voted in the recent election. The data can be broken down by state, voter demographic, and voter demographic in a specific state. It indicates that Hispanic voters in Florida voted for Donald Trump over Kamala Harris and generally supported most Republican candidates and policies. Of the Hispanic people who voted in Florida, 56% voted for Trump and 43% for Harris. They also chose Rick Scott over Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for Senate in votes of 52% to 42% and selected the Republican candidate over the Democratic candidate for Congress in votes of 58% to 40%. As far as their “Views on the Democratic Party regard for Latinos”, 42% said that the Democratic Party cares “a great deal”, 50% said that it “doesn’t care too much”, and 8% found it to be “hostile”. On the other hand, for their “Views on the Republican Party regard for Latinos”, 43% said that the Republican Party cares “a great deal”, 35% said that it “doesn’t care too much”, and 22% found it to be “hostile”. On the topic of immigration, 70% were in favor or “Increasing border security and allowing people to come with visas, but otherwise limiting migration to the U.S. while also providing a path to citizenship for Dreamers and other long-term undocumented immigrants working and living in the U.S.” The other 30% were in favor of “Increasing border security and limiting migration to the U.S.” as well as detaining and deporting “all undocumented immigrants already here, even those who have lived and worked in the U.S. for more than 10 years and have families here”. Regarding abortion, 43% of Hispanic voters said “I personally support a woman's right to abortion and believe it should be legal and available”, 39% said “I am personally against abortion but I do not believe government should prevent a woman from making that decision for herself”, and 19% said “I personally believe having an abortion is wrong and should always be illegal for everyone”. The vast majority of them also either supported or strongly supported price gouging ban, new housing, and payment assistance policies. However, 63% expressed some degree of worry over the prospect of Project 2025. Around 82% of the polled Hispanic voters had voted in previous elections with 63% having voted in 2018 or prior. This year, they favored the economy, democracy, and Trump’s deportation plan as at least one of the motivations for why they chose to vote in this election. The company who released this poll, UnidosUS, is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that claims to be “the nation’s largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization”. While it powered the poll, the research was carried out by BSP Research and the African American Research Collaborative. Article by Ema Tibbetts
