Florida’s Rick Scott Criticizes Trump Indictment As ‘Complete Election Interference’

Among all of the controversy regarding Donald Trump and the upcoming election, Florida’s Senator Rick Scott voiced his opinion, defending Trump in an interview he did with Newsmax on August 28, 2024, and on X, formerly known as Twitter. His biggest takeaway is that everything that has been done to Trump is “complete election interference”.

The interview came just one day after Special Counsel Jack Smith filed a new 36-page  superseding indictment in response to the Supreme Court’s 6-3 ruling on July 1, 2024, in Trump v. United States, which gave Trump some immunity from prosecution regarding the January 6, 2021, attack on the United States’ Capital. 

The new revised indictment, similar to the original 45-page indictment filed on August 1, 2023, charges Trump with four separate violations of federal criminal law as follows:

• Conspiracy to defraud the United States of America
• Conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding 
• Obstruction of and attempt to obstruct and official proceeding
• Conspiracy against rights

Scott remarked that Smith’s actions with the revised indictment are “disgusting”, comparing his actions to those of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro’s toward the citizens of his own country. He also said that Trump and “his whole family” have been “slandered”, and “he has been indicted multiple times”, “convicted”, and “shot at”. 

“The Biden-Harris Administration, all they want to do is do everything they can to indict Trump, convict Trump, put Trump in jail, whatever it is to try to win the election. They’ll go to any means”, says Scott. Yet, the Florida senator believes the “reason he is going to win in November is because people are tired…of the ‘swamp’ making decisions”. 

He reposted a 41-second clip of the interview to his official Facebook account, where he also stated that the American people are “sick…of this lawfare the Dems are using against President Donald J. Trump” and that the Democrats “know they can’t beat him at the ballot box, so they’re trying to come at him through the courts”. Regardless, Scott is confident that the “American people won’t fall for it”.

Scott also posted to his X account on the day of the indictment to say that as Biden “sits incapacitated on a beach, the ruling class has installed a new radical candidate without a single vote, and seeks to ignore the Supreme Court & jail their political opponent by any means necessary. The taxpayer-funded lawfare…is shameless”, and “we won’t stand for it and President Trump will NEVER BACK DOWN”.
