11/8/2024 0 Comments Free Admission to FL State Parks for Veterans, Active Military, and Families on Veterans DayFlorida veterans, active-duty military members, and their families can enjoy free admission to state parks on Veterans Day, November 11, thanks to an initiative by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). The offer is a tribute to the service and sacrifices of military personnel. Chuck Hatcher, Director of Florida State Parks, highlighted the importance of Veterans Day, saying, "By offering free access to our beautiful state parks, we hope to provide a space for families to come together, honor their service and create lasting memories." Several parks hold historical significance, including the General James A. Van Fleet State Trail, named after a decorated World War II and Korean War veteran, and Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park, the site of a Civil War battle. Avalon State Park in St. Lucie County also played a role during World War II as a training camp for Navy SEAL predecessors. The free admission offer excludes Skyway Fishing Pier State Park, and fees for accommodations, concessions, and rentals will still apply.
