In a press release, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says that at 2:07 p.m. on November 18, deputies responded to reports of the incident. The initial reports described a hit-and-run with an injured victim at the Shell gas station “located at 11302 North Dale Mabry Highway”. However, as the investigation advanced, deputies discovered that there was more to the story. Originally, the offending vehicle had parked in front of the Shell store, and the front-seat passenger, 24-year-old Jose Corbo, went in, stole two bottles of soda, and left. The driver, 24-year-old Marie Uribe, remained in the car. The store clerk went to confront Corbo as he re-entered the vehicle, but Uribe began to speed away. The clerk “attempted to intervene”, but Corbo grabbed her and held her arm onto the car before ultimately pushing her. As a result, she “lost her balance and was run over as the vehicle fled the scene”. She was “seriously injured” and was transported to the hospital. She is currently in a stable condition. On November 18, Uribe was arrested on one count of “Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Serious Bodily Injury” and two counts of “Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm”. All three counts are second-degree felonies. She was released on a $25,000 bond on November 22. On November 20, Corbo was arrested on two counts of “Aggravated Battery Great Bodily Harm”, one count of “Resisting Arrest or Detention in Retail Theft”, one count of “Petit Theft ($100 or Less)”, and one count of “Out of County Warrant - (VOP) Grand Theft Motor Vehicle”. He is currently being held in Falkenburg Road Jail with no bond set. Corbo had also just been arrested on November 15 for one count of second-degree felony retail theft ($3,000 or more) and one count of third-degree felony grand theft ($5,000 to $10,000). He had been released on a $10,000 bond on November 17, only to commit additional crimes the very next day. Regarding the incident on November 18, Sheriff Chad Chronister stated “This senseless act of violence left an innocent person seriously injured. We will not tolerate reckless actions like this that put lives at risk. We hope this arrest brings some measure of comfort to the victim”. The investigation is ongoing. Article by Ema Tibbetts
