A slice of Pensacola’s history has been given a new lease on life. The city’s first bike shop, located in the heart of downtown, has been meticulously renovated and is now available as a unique rental property. The transformation of this historic building was spearheaded by Pensacola native Josh Oberhausen, who spoke directly to Uncovering Florida to give us all the details. Situated in the neighborhood where Oberhausen grew up, this loft-style building offers visitors a distinctive blend of modern amenities and historic charm. "We always talked about what a great rental it would be, unlike anything else we’d seen in town," he noted in our interview. According to Oberhausen, the renovation, driven by sustainability concerns, included a new roof, updated electrical panel, HVAC system, and windows. Initially, the space served as an office and showroom for Madera Furnishings, an Indonesian furniture company. However, the pandemic-induced shipping disruptions led to the closure of the showroom, and the building was repurposed as a rental. The loft retains its historic character with exposed brick walls and 17-foot ceilings, complemented by modern features such as premium bedding, a 65" Smart TV, a premium sound system, Wi-Fi, and a leather couch. The natural lighting in the space enhances its charm, making it an attractive option for visitors. Located just a short walk from downtown Pensacola and a 15-minute drive to the beach, the loft is ideally situated for both business and leisure travelers. Guests have access to two bikes, beach chairs, and an umbrella, making it easy to explore the local area. “The vibe is so distinctive. It delivers a modern, yet historic experience,” said Oberhausen. “For less than what someone would spend per night at the Holiday Inn downtown, they can have this incredible space to themselves.” The rental is available through multiple platforms as well as directly through PcolaRentals.com. With its rich history and modern conveniences, the loft offers a unique stay in Pensacola, combining the best of the past and present.
