Nearly 900 Florida Drivers Stopped in 8-Hour Traffic Crackdown This Week

This week, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) joined forces with 11 other law enforcement agencies to conduct a large-scale public safety operation along a 100-mile stretch of US-19. The coordinated effort involved agencies including the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Clearwater Police Department, and Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, among others.

This operation marked the second successful collaboration aimed at reducing dangerous driving behaviors. The first initiative, held in August, set the stage for these ongoing efforts to tackle issues like speeding, aggressive driving, and driving under the influence.

The results of the operation highlight its effectiveness:

• Total Traffic Stops: 893, including 232 for speeding
• Total Citations and Arrests: 488
• Physical Arrests: 9
• DUI Arrests: 4
• Total Warnings Issued: 475

Law enforcement agencies emphasized that these initiatives not only serve to enforce the law but also act as a deterrent to dangerous driving behaviors, promoting safer communities.
