Poll results released on October 29 show that as a nation, the presidential election is currently a tight race with Kamala Harris narrowly in the lead. However, in Florida, voters are leaning towards Trump. As of this past Tuesday, the poll showed that, nationally, Harris has a two point 49% to 47% lead of likely voters over Trump and revealed that a greater number of voters think “Harris best understands the challenges facing average Americans” compared to Trump at 46% to 44%. It also found that Republicans prefer to vote in-person on Election Day, whereas Democrats prefer to vote via mail-in ballots. In the state of Florida, Trump has a nine point lead of 53% to 44% among likely voters. Republican Rick Scott is also leading Florida’s senate race at 50% to Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell’s 46%. In addition, controversial Amendment 3 and Amendment 4 are both proving to be on the cusp of having likely Florida voters’ support with leads of 60% to 34% and 58% to 32%, respectively. All of the amendments in Florida need just 60% approval to pass. The voters of Florida have also expressed a preference for early in-person voting, as 51% claimed they would be choosing this option, 21% claimed to prefer mail-in ballots, and 18% claimed they would be waiting until Election Day to vote in-person. This poll was conducted by Mainstreet Research USA and the Florida Atlantic University Political Communication and Public Opinion Research Lab (PolCom Lab). The poll findings are the result of two separated surveys with a total of 1,850 participants. The margin of error is considered to be about ±3.2% with a 95% confidence level. PolCom Lab co-director and political scientist professor Kevin Wagner, Ph.D., stated that “This race continues to be highly competitive. Turnout or a late movement of voters could be the difference”.
