Road Rage Erupts Over Compliment: Warrant Issued for Winter Haven Man

​The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for the arrest of 53-year-old John Sturgeon, of Winter Haven, following a violent incident captured on a dash camera. Sturgeon is wanted for battery after assaulting a driver in an unprovoked attack on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Tindel Camp Road near Scenic Highway in the Dundee/Lake Wales area. The victim, who did not know Sturgeon, was driving westbound when Sturgeon suddenly stopped his vehicle, exited, and approached the victim’s car. Sturgeon then grabbed the victim's hands and punched them in the face.

The victim stated that the only interaction prior to the assault was a wave and a compliment about Sturgeon's vehicle. Deputies attempted to locate Sturgeon at his residence in Terranova, Winter Haven, but he was not present.

Sturgeon is described as a white male, 5'9" tall, weighing 260 lbs., with dark hair and eyes, and tattoos. Authorities are urging anyone with information about Sturgeon’s whereabouts to contact the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 863-298-6200.
