'Significant Lightning Activity': Photo Shows Devastation Caused by Strike in Florida

The Pembroke Pines Police Department has reported a surge in lightning activity in the area, with a recent strike causing significant damage to a building at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Taft Street.

"We have seen significant lightning activity in the area recently, including a strike which hit a building today at Flamingo Road & Taft Street," the department stated in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on July 22.

The Pembroke Pines PD shared a photo showcasing the aftermath of the lightning strike, highlighting the severe impact of such natural phenomena. The department is urging residents to exercise caution during thunderstorms and to follow safety guidelines to protect themselves and their property.

"Where possible, stay indoors during a thunderstorm and avoid bodies of water, metal objects, and tall outdoor structures such as poles and trees," the post advised.
