Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) successfully rescued a 91-year-old woman stranded in her home as floodwaters surged to dangerous levels near the Alafia River in Lithia. According to the video post shared on the Sheriff's Facebook page today, the area has been experiencing severe flooding following Milton, with water levels exceeding six feet.
HCSO deputies are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas, responding to emergency calls and conducting rescue operations as needed. Similarly, yesterday, HCSO deputies rescued residents from The Great American Assisted Living Facility in Tampa after severe flooding left many trapped. At approximately 7:05 a.m., the HCSO Communications Center received reports of residents stranded in waist-deep water at the facility, located at 11722 North 17th Street. Upon arrival, deputies discovered numerous residents in distress, including many who were wheelchair-bound. In a coordinated effort, HCSO successfully evacuated 135 individuals from the flooded facility, ensuring their safety. The video of today's rescue can be found here.
