$14 For The ‘Paw-fect’ Valentine In Palm Beach County

​Have you ever wanted a significant other who loves you unconditionally, always makes time for you, enjoys cuddling on the couch, and gets excited every time you come home even if you were only gone for five minutes? If this sounds like your ideal partner, then this Valentine’s Day, let a dog or cat be your valentine. In celebration of the holiday, Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control is offering $14 adoption fees for both dogs and cats for the entire month of February.

Meet Karma:

• 4 years old
• Female
• 11 pounds
• 43 days in the shelter
• Ready to go to her forever home today!

Meet Woogie:

• 2 years old
• Male
• 69 pounds
• 26 days in the shelter
• Ready to go to his forever home today!

Meet Wilamina:

• 2 years old
• Female
• 8 pounds 11 ounces
• 18 days in the shelter
• Ready to go to her forever home today!​

Meet Rosie:

• 1 year 1 month old
• Female
• 31 pounds
• 15 days in the shelter
• Ready to go to her forever home today!

Meet Ditto:

• 5 years
• Male
• 10 pounds 10 ounces
• 12 days in the shelter
• Ready to go to his forever home today!

Meet Red:

• 2 years old
• Male
• 47 pounds
• 49 days in the shelter
• Ready to go to his forever home today

In addition to dogs and cats, Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control currently has two chickens available for adoption. Normally, adoption fees from this shelter range from $50-75 per pet with a discount for residents of Palm Beach County above the age of 55. When you find your furry valentine, fill out the adoption application and email it to [email protected] or [email protected] with a reference to the animal ID# of the pet you are interested in. Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control will get back to you once your application has been received and approved. 

The organization also notes that applications are not guaranteed approval and that submitting an application does not guarantee the availability of any of the adoptable animals. However, if your application is approved and the dog or cat is still available, then Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control says that upon adoption, your new furry friend will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, made current on vaccinations, and administered protection against ticks and fleas. 

When you go to pick your pet up, Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control requests that you bring a fitting leash and collar if you are taking home a dog or a kennel if you are taking home a cat. If you do not bring your own, then the organization charges $5 each for a leash and a collar and $8 for a cat kennel.

If you want to get involved but are not sure about the long-term commitment of adoption, then consider fostering an animal instead.

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control offers four options for fostering: 

• Foster2Rescue: a short-term commitment of two to six weeks for a select dog in which supplies are provided for you. 
• Foster2Adopt: get to know a pet that you are interested in by taking it home for up to three weeks before officially adopting.
• Foster2Petpals: for a short time, give nourishment and tender loving care to help pets get healthy and become eligible for adoption in the Petpals program. Supplies will be provided.
• Foster2Family: provide a stress-free environment outside of a shelter for an adoptable dog or cat of your choosing while helping to prepare it for its forever home through socialization, showing it love, and networking to find it a family. Supplies will be provided.​
