There is perhaps little that I hate more than spending tons of money on drinks when I'm out, so I often make my own at home and this morning was no exception. While I was squeezing lemons for fresh lemonade first thing upon waking up, I found myself thinking about how I can't possibly be the only one who likes to save money (and have unlimited drinks), ultimately leading to me wondering why I haven't shared my many drink recipes before. So, I did what any good lifestyle blogger would do and created a list of my favorite easy refreshing drinks to make at home. Better yet, most of the ingredients (including fruit) and supplies can be purchased directly through Amazon so you can really be like me and spend more time soaking up the sun and less time shopping.
You're welcome to sub any of the following ingredients to your prefered taste, texture and diet specifications. Also, each of these beverages can be enjoyed virgin or spiked, whatever suits your fancy! Which drink will you be starting your weekend with? 1. Passion Fruit Juice Cocktail
It's no secret that passion fruit juice cocktails are one of my weaknesses. Thanks to the passion fruit they're loaded with vitamin C and tons of other vitamins, minerals and fiber. I personally think that the passion fruit is sweet enough on its own that it doesn't need any extra sweeteners. If you like tart and pungent tastes, you may also find that the juice doesn't need sweetened, but you can sweeten to taste with your preferred sweetener. Passion fruits can be tricky to find, but once in a while I am able to grab it at a local fresh market. Thankfully, if you're really struggling to come up with a way to get fresh passion fruit, you can purchase them here.
What you'll need:
Take your ripe passion fruits and empty their inner contents including the seeds into a blender, blend for a few seconds and strain the pulp thoroughly with a strainer. Repeat the process until you have roughly a cup of seedless passion fruit pulp, then mix with two cups of water and sweeten to taste. Garnish with a dried orange. Some other flavors that partner well with this juice include coconut, guava, banana, orange, lime juice and of course, rum! 2. Twisted Cold Brew Peach Tea
Why spend a ton of money to buy something that you can make for a fraction of the cost in the comfort of your own home -- and it will taste fresher! There's just something about freshly brewed iced tea that makes me think of summer, and Lipton makes fresh brewin' so much easier with their cold brew tea packets.
What you'll need:
How to make it: Pour eight cups of cool water into your pitcher and add the two bags of tea to steep in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours. Garnish with dried lemons or oranges, mint leaves and sweeten with peach syrup to taste. Add peach vodka for an extra fruity kick! 3. Honeydew Bubble Milk Tea
I discovered boba tea a few years ago and fell head over heels for the many flavors, textures and ways boba can be prepared. Popping boba, fruity boba, regular boba -- I love it all, especially when mixed with honeydew melon! The best part about it is that you can make my favorite boba drink super easily at home by ordering the few ingredients needed straight to your doorstep from Amazon.
What you'll need:
How to make it: Prepare your boba as directed according to which type you purchase, set aside while preparing the honeydew melon powder. Mix two scoops of powder to one cup of milk or water (or substitute with a steeped cup of tea) and mix until dissolved. I usually mix to taste as I find that the amount of desired flavor varies per person. Once the mixture is dissolved, add boba and enjoy over ice or mixed with vodka. 4. Chocolate Avocado Smoothie
Before you turn your nose up at this, know that I did too the first time I was offered one. Fortunately, I didn't let that stop me from taking a sip and realizing how very wrong I was for thinking avocado and chocolate wouldn't pair well together. Creamy, smooth and healthy, it's now one of my favorite drinks to sip while watching the waves crash in.
What you'll need:
How to make it: While I highly recommend a blender for this recipe, because the ingredients are all very soft you can get away with just mashing it together manually. Regardless of how you choose to mix it, you'll want to start by pitting and skinning a ripe avocado, mixing in your yogurt, a handful of bananas and two scoops of chocolate powder. The mixture should be relatively thick, if you'd like for it to be thinner just add milk or water. Garnish with fresh blueberries for a colorful touch. 5. 3-Ingredient Pina Colada
I couldn't leave off the most quintessential beach drink known to man, the pina colada! There's perhaps nothing better than mixing coconut and pineapple together to make this naturally sweet drink -- and if you're wanting to get wasted in Margaritaville, well, you know what to do. If you want to make it extra fancy, order yourself a well-deserved coconut cup and some tiny umbrellas.
What you'll need:
How to make it: Mix equal parts coconut milk and pineapple juice (or sub the juice for fresh pineapple chunks), stir together until blended. Serve over ice or add ice and mixture into a blender for a smoothie/frappe texture. Personally, it's not a true pina colada to me without the rum -- but I won't complain either way!
