Have you ever stepped on a thumb tack or a LEGO? How about a screw bigger than your foot? A stray cat, rescued by the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB) on Wednesday, February 14, not only stepped on a screw but got one impaled through her front right paw. The HSTB reports that late in the day this past Valentine’s Day, its team answered the call to rescue this cat. Once she was caught, the team noted that she was completely unable to use the injured paw and set up a surgery to remove the screw the following day. The veterinarian who performed her surgery on Thursday morning deemed the removal a success, and continued treatment is ongoing. Due to her bold calico colors and reportedly big personality, the HSTB decided to name her Daisy. As soon as her paw heals, Daisy will be available for adoption. Call the HSTB at 813-876-7138 to inquire about Daisy or visit the official website to view this organization’s other adoptable animals. Some other feline friends currently available for adoption include: Boyd: -Male -2 years old -10.9 pounds If any of these cats or any others look like your new furbaby, then make the trip over to Tampa to meet them. At the HSTB, adoptions are done the same day, in person only, and on a first-come, first-serve basis. After you have looked at the cat(s) you are interested in onsite, be sure to bring their kennel card to the front desk in the lobby. You can then meet with an adoption coordinator to go over the necessary paperwork and get any questions answered before taking them home. The HSTB also has a policy that all cats must leave in a cat carrier, so when you go, either bring your own or be prepared to purchase one from the store inside the shelter. All adopted cats come vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and spayed/neutered. Adoption fees start at $85 for kittens under 3 months old, $50 for adult cats between 3 months and 10 years old, and $25 for senior cats over 10 years old. Additionally, the HSTB has a live Kitten Room webcam run through FOX 13, where you can look inside the cat fostering room at any time for a potential sneak peek at the adoptable cats.
