Whether it's the colorful draw of creation or the feeling of inspiration that moves us, there's no shortage of artsy escapes in the Sunshine State waiting to be uncovered by every kind of art-lover. One art museum in St. Petersburg Florida, Fairgrounds St. Pete, takes it up a notch with immersive, whole-room, walk-through exhibits — and their newest shrimp-themed installation offers visitors a real fishy surprise. "Don’t miss Fairgrounds St. Pete’s newest expansion, Shrimpfinity!" the exhibit announcement on Fairgrounds St. Pete's website reads, in part. "Immerse yourself in this fantastical shrimp-themed wonderland created by MILAGROS Collective." Just a five-minute trip from Downtown St. Pete and Tropicana Field, the display will transport visitors to a surreal world that's been 'shrimp-ified.' The memorable and visually striking display features a 6-foot-tall Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail and a spinning shrimp-shaped disco ball, playing with both scale and context to create a sense of wonder and whimsy until May 29; where something new will be lined up to take its place. Fairgrounds St. Pete has so much more than just a shrimp-themed wonderland on display right now though. Their walls are filled to the brim with multiple unique installations from over 60 artists. Examples include a room full of colorfully lit lamps on geometric cubed shelving titled Lampscape curated by the Fairground St. Pete team, or a perfectly pink paradise by Artists Emiliano Settecasi & Macy Higgins titled Strawberry Room — and yes cottage-core girlies, the room is completely strawberry-themed. Check out a video sneak peek of what you can expect on a visit to the Fairgrounds and of their new Shrimpfinity exhibit below: The museum is also known to host live jazz musicians on Immersive Jazz Nights. One such event is coming up on Friday, May 12 between 8 and 10 pm, featuring Julie Black Music. Some displays also feature an accompanying experience that's great for kids and friend groups, such as the Searchlight Scavenger Hunt. In this experience, you journey through the neon Mermaid Star Motel searching for clues with a UV flashlight to uncover hidden numbers that will unlock a secret art installation. A combo ticket that includes general admission to Fairgrounds' full-immersive experience, as well as the Searchlight Scavenger Hunt, will run you and your crew $34 each. However, if you're not down for a hunt, general admission is only $27 for those over the age of 12. Children's general admission for those between 4 and 12 is $22, with children under 4 getting in for free, making this a great day-trip destination for families. Florida residents over the age of 13 with an ID can get in for only $25, the same goes for college students with a valid student ID, as well as adults over 65, and active duty military, police, fire, and EMT personnel with ID. Fairgrounds St. Pete can be found at 2606 Fairfield Ave South in the heart of the Warehouse Arts District, along the Pinellas Bike Trail. What do you think of this fishy surprise?
