As Hurricane Idalia continues to track northbound through Georgia, Tampa Bay is still feeling the effects of storm surge and high tides. "Turn around- don't drown," a post from the City of Tampa on X, formerly Twitter, reads in part. The post continues to alert of persistent flooding being seen along Bayshore Boulevard, Westshore, and Port Tampa, reporting that emergency personnel have already been dispatched. Accompanying the post is a video clip showing the effects of flooding across the Tampa Bay region — including footage of city streets, coastal regions, and along the riverwalk. The City of Tampa warns that even a few inches of water could cause you to lose control of your vehicle. If you are in an emergency, the City asks that you call the Tampa Police Department at (813)-231-6130 and urges citizens to not drive through flooded areas. The barrier islands across Pinellas also remain closed as additional flooding is expected this afternoon. More on that here.
