Been thinking of bringing a furry friend into your fur-ever home? An event hosted by Pinellas County Animal Services dubbed #cleartheshelters may just be your ticket to doing so while saving a little cash — as they're waiving adoption fees for the entire month of August. According to a Facebook post shared by Pinellas County Animal Services on August 1, while all adoption fees are waived, those hoping to secure the goodies needed to set up their new best friend with things they need will also be able to do so. Available items will include crates, harnesses, leashes, and low-cost heartworm prevention treatments. Those planning to adopt can see all the dogs and cats currently available by visiting Pinellas County's website here. Wanting to visit the animals in person? The animal services adoption center is located at 12450 Ulmerton Road in Largo; they're open Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, and 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays. The county also encourages those unable to adopt but still wanting to make a difference in the animal rescue space to join their Volunteer PACK team. At this time, they're recruiting dog enrichment volunteers to exercise pups and ensure their comfort and care needs are met. Those hoping to volunteer will need to fill out a quick and easy application at Pinellas.gov/volunteer-opportunities/. With so many shelter dogs and kitten season also in full swing, Pinellas County Animal Services is also still in need of comfort items for would-be fur babies, such as blankets, towels, Milkbones, dog and cat foods, and toys for both. The County asks that those unable to adopt consider donating needed items through their Amazon wish list here. Article by Rachael Volpe
