While police are normally the ones responding to reports of a crash, they're not immune to experiencing one themselves — as evidenced by a collision involving a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) deputy and a ride-along recruit on Friday. According to an August 4 Facebook post shared by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, a deputy and recruit were traveling Northbound on 301 as they made their way to assist with a separate call. During their commute, they pulled up to a red light on Palm River Road. At the traffic light, the deputy looked both ways before deciding it was safe to proceed with making a righthand turn. During the turn, a grey Honda struck the HCSO patrol vehicle; the impact resulted in the HCSO vehicle flipping on its side. The Facebook post notes the officer's commitment to safety and miraculous luck resulting in everyone making it through the incident without any injuries. The post is accompanied by two photos, each showing the upside-down vehicle from differing angles; it appears to have suffered minimal damage. "Our deputies face unpredictable challenges daily while always demonstrating remarkable poise and dedication," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We're beyond grateful that this incident ended with everyone safe and sound." As of publication, no further details regarding this crash have been released; if they become available, Uncovering Florida will update this post.
