According to a press release from the Volusia Sheriff's Office, a Florida man has been arrested after violating posted signage and driving his truck into the ocean. On the morning of February 6, 2024, Jason Brzuszkiewicz drove his truck around a closed gate marked "DO NOT ENTER" and accessed the beach before driving his truck through the surf. His drive through the ocean was captured on video by a witness. Witness footage, shared by the Volusia Sheriff's Office, shows Brzuszkiewicz driving his vehicle parallel to the surf down the shore, the water nearing the tops of his tires, and waves crashing over the hood. After coasting the shoreline, he eventually goes to make a U-Turn, instead driving deeper into the water. In the following body cam footage, Brzuszkiewicz seated smiling in the sand states, "It's not my fault the truck don't surf," and that he thought he was "in England." When the officer tells him he's not in England, he says, "Are we not in Kansas anymore?" before letting out a laugh. However, Brzuszkiewicz smile fades when he finds out he can get in trouble for his beach joy ride, later discovering he faces a misdemeanor charge and could face possible jail time. As of publication, Brzuszkiewicz has been charged with a violation of Volusia County Ordinance 20-174 (8) (failure to pay vehicular access fee) and transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail with a $200 bond.
