Fun events happening in Florida this August 2022

Contrary to the rest of the nation, there are fewer events scheduled in Florida during the summer months. That said, that doesn't mean that there aren't some notable happenings coming up this August. Here are some of the biggest Florida events happening in August you won't want to miss!

Rocket Launches

If you couldn't have guessed it from the cover photo, a few rocket launches are schedule to take place this month. The first liftoff is scheduled for August 4 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and the next will be on August 29. That said, only the latter offers public on-site viewing. Tickets for that launch go on sale August 2, 2022 here! 

Sea Turtle Walk

Have you always wanted to find a sea turtle nest but didn't know where to look? If yes, then this event is for you! The Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale is offering a chance to help you discover sea turtle nesting sites during a guided beach walk. The event takes place in the evening, so be sure to bring bug spray. There are multiple dates throughout the month, so find the one that best fits your schedule here. 

Hippie Fest

Calling all groovy souls and peace-lovers! The Tarpon Springs Hippie Fest is coming back again for another year of far-out fun including VW, hula hooping and costume contests, vendors, live entertainment and of course--plenty of food and photo ops. The fest is scheduled for Saturday August 20 from 2-10p.m. at the Sponge Docks. 

Busch Gardens Bier Fest

Need an excuse to leave the kids at home for some adult-time at the parks? Good news--Busch Garden's wildly-popular Bier Fest is taking over the last few weeks of August spanning into the beginning of September. According to the park's website, this beer-inspired food festival will feature "seasonal favorites and brew-inspired dishes featuring fall flavors. This festival blends the local Tampa bay craft scene with time-honored traditions to create a unique food and beer celebration. Enjoy live entertainment and contemporary fare that pays homage to a traditional Oktoberfest with a modern spin." Get your discounted tickets here! 

Coke Zero Sugar 400 (Daytona Speedway)

Florida and racing are nearly synonymous, so it's no wonder that the Coke Zero Sugar 400 is one of the biggest events happening this summer in Florida. This annual NASCAR Cup Series stock car race at Daytona International Speedway will be happening on August 27 and adult tickets start at $49. Get tickets and find out more here!

Astronomical Events

While we love hosted events, we also can't forget to appreciate the naturally occurring ones! This month there will be a supermoon, meteor shower, Saturn at opposition, Mercury at Greatest Eastern Elongation and a new moon. Some awesome places to witness these events at are these Florida dark sky parks!

Space Coast Burger Battle

Alexa, cue Cheeseburger in Paradise by Jimmy Buffet! Anyone who considers themselves a connoisseur of  grilling will not want to miss the one and only Space Coast Burger Battle event happening August 20 at Wickham Park. General admission is $7 and that will get you access to dozens of food and craft vendors. All burger vendors will be competing for title of BEST Burger!
