5/11/2023 0 Comments 'House of execution': Old Florida Jail from the 1800s is officially on the marketYou can own a little slice of Florida history with a bit of an eerie past as the original Pasco County Jail located at 37739 Robinson Ave, Dade City, was put up for sale this past week. "It is ready to be used as a fully furnished RESIDENTIAL HOME, HOME OFFICE OR AIRBNB opportunity," the listing reads in part. Often considered the oldest brick structure in Dade City, according to the property's Zillow listing, the remodeled 3,000+sqft building was originally constructed in 1893. According to several sources, over a century ago, the jail was the place of several hangings. "The Old Pasco County Jail is home to business now, but hangings and more were once commonplace there," wrote James Thorner for a 1999 article posted on the Tampa Bay Times, in which he later calls the building a "house of execution". The questionably "haunted" building has undergone many changes over the past 100+ years, most recently with the addition of a large kitchen, 4 full bathrooms and 6 bedrooms/offices. From the listing photos, it appears that the renovations included keeping some the old building's charm by leaving some of the original interior brick walls exposed and placing antiques throughout. The home is located only a block away from downtown Dade City and is within walking distance to many eateries, coffee shops, lounges and more. And this single family residence with a past can be all yours for the price of $1,250,000. You can find out more and see photos of the interior of the property here.
