Florida's many art museums offer a world of creation worth exploring at least once; however, if the sterile vibe of marbled halls and carpeted galleries isn't really your jam, checking out the free-to-explore Whimzeyland may just be more your speed. Located in Safety Harbor, Florida, Whimzeyland is the home of two artists: Todd Ramquist and Kiaralinda. What started as a collection of bowling balls and unique pieces discovered on unusual trips together that they brought to their home has become a work of art on its own — a labor of love that the couple says has taken more than 20 years to become what it is today. The home is decorated brightly with all sorts of materials, from plexiglass sculptures and paintings to bottle trees, recycled material sculptures, and much more. It also features beautiful multi-colored mosaic walkways and a host of beautiful flower beds to frame out the couple's collection of over 900 bowling balls; earning the home's nickname as "The Bowling Ball House." According to their website, Whimzeyland has been featured on TV shows as well, including MTV's Cribs and HGTV's Extreme Homes. While this local gem is free to explore on your own, guided tours can also be booked through the website. Each guided tour is $25 and lasts approximately 1 and a half hours, conducted by golf cart. At this time, Whimzeyland is temporarily closed for the summer, but will reopen after September 15, 2023. Hours are Thursday and Friday between 12 pm and 5 pm, or 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sundays. Those looking to explore everything Whimzeyland has to offer can find the home at 1206 3rd St. N in Safety Harbor.
