As news was announced over the weekend of the 76-year-old singer-songwriter's passing, the internet has quickly become adorned with touching tributes remembering one of America's most beloved beach bums, Jimmy Buffet. "Jimmy Buffett co-founded Save the Manatee Club with former US senator & FL governor Bob Graham. We will be forever grateful for his immense contributions to protecting the FL manatee and his many followers who have supported manatees for over 40 years," said Save the Manatee Club on their X page, only one of many Florida-based organizations and businesses feeling the immense loss. Buffet, who had a big presence in The Florida Keys, is also being honored this evening at the Key West Margaritaville. "Remembering the legendary singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffet, who left us on Sept. 1 at 76. Key West, where he crafted his tropical sound, pays tribute today," wrote The Florida Keys on X accompanied by some photos of fans leaving salt shakers, flowers and more around the local Margaritaville. "Key West will honor Jimmy Buffett with a Second Line Procession starting at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3 at the corner of Front and Duval Streets. Participants are encouraged to wear tropical attire and leis. The event benefits the Bahama Village Music Program," they shared in another post. According to information published on Jimmy Buffet's X profile, the singer passed away peacefully surrounded by his family over the weekend. "Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs," the post says, in part, furthering that he lived his life like a song until his very last breath. Jimmy Buffett's cause of death was Merkel cell skin cancer. "Buffett, 76, had been fighting Merkel Cell Skin Cancer for four years. He continued to perform during treatment, playing his last show, a surprise appearance in Rhode Island, in early July," his obituary, which was shared on his official website, noted. Furthermore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Jimmy Buffett’s Foundation Singing for Change, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute or MD Anderson Cancer Center.
