When you take a trip to the beach you probably expect to encounter at least a little bit of seaweed. However, a different kind of sea weed found its way onto one Florida beachfront over the weekend, when Neptune Beach Police responded to a report of a large amount of marijuana on its shores. "It appears a large quantity likely broke open at sea and separated before coming ashore." an Instagram post shared on Saturday, July 22 from Neptune Beach Police reads, in part. The police department's post continues, announcing that they were on the scene working with Public Works to clean the marijuana off the beach. The post is accompanied by two photographs of the loose nuggets of weed scattered along Neptune Beach, which officers say were found to have washed ashore along Neptune Beach's shoreline near Florida Boulevard. It appears that Neptune Beach PD was also looking out for would-be weed wranglers, advising against turning the discovery into a treasure hunt, citing not the substance's illegality, but its safety. "Before anyone starts thinking about coming out and turning this discovery into your own treasure hunt, we would advise against it. After floating in the ocean for some time, the marijuana has quickly begun to degrade and rot. Please avoid the area until cleanup is completed." writes Neptune Beach Police. Many of those who saw the post appeared to find humor in the ordeal, quipping in with puns and jokes in the comments section. "It went from marijuana to seaweed." wrote user tekk.ix. "Waves r nuggin'." says Davishassler. "Please avoid the area. How about don’t tell us first?" writes Petee13. As for where exactly the "sea weed" came from, we may never know; as of publication, no further details regarding the situation have been announced.
