After a long hiatus, the furry friends living on their own slice of paradise behind Homosassa's Florida Cracker Monkey Bar, fondly dubbed Monkey Island, have finally come back home, confimed by Uncovering Florida over the weekend. These playful spider monkeys named Ebony, Ralph and Emily, who continue to be part of one of the area's most popular roadside attractions, were temporarily relocated to Boyett's Grove while their island underwent some sprucing up. Their absence left a void as folks eagerly awaited their return for well over a year. After all, these monkeys are not just a sight to see; they have been a part of the heart and soul of the area for decades. Now that the monkeys are finally back, the island feels alive again with their playful antics as they swing from the new and improved features. Their comeback signals the long-awaited end of renovations and also brings back a piece of what makes Homosassa so special. You can view the monkeys for free from the Florida Cracker Monkey Bar, or you can get a little closer in the water by passing by on a boat. Despite their charming appearance, the monkeys should be observed from a respectful distance. Visitors are often reminded not to feed or interact with them to ensure both human safety and the well-being of the monkeys.
