A rare sphynx cat at Rags to Riches Animal Rescue in Tampa, Florida is seeking a fur-ever home after being surrendered this month. Lilo the Sphynx was originally purchased in Hawaii as a kitten just a few years ago. According to Rags to Riches Animal Rescue, the owner ended up getting a service dog who didn't get along with her, so she was forced to sell her beloved pet. The lady who purchased her ended up surrendering Lilo to the Tampa shelter on December 19, 2023, after discovering that Lilo didn't get along well with her other cats, swatting at them and peeing outside of the litter box in defiance. Despite a track record of being skittish around other animals, previous owners say that Lilo is extremely loving and cuddly. "This means Lilo has been through a couple homes in the past few years and will need a special, patient adopter..." says Rags to Riches Animal Rescue staff. "We want her to go with someone who understands the needs of the breed, especially a special case like Lilo who has some behavior issues." Shelter staff state that Lilo will be up-to-date on vaccines and deworming before she finds her perfect home, and that she would be best suited for a home as a solo kitty; however, Rags to Riches plan to monitor her behavior while in their care to see if she improves. Those interested in learning more about Lilo or scheduling a visit to meet her are encouraged to call Rags to Riches Animal Rescue at (813)-695-5473. Article by Rachael Volpe
