Do you love the beach but hate swimming in sea water? Well you're living in the 21st century so there's a solution for that! There's a 7+ acre lagoon near Tampa that combines the best of both worlds to give you a truly unique aquatic experience.
Aptly named Epperson Lagoon, this spot is located in Wesley Chapel, Florida, only a short drive north of Tampa. It is a massive man-made waterworld part of the Epperson community, considered the first of its kind in the US. Not only can you swim here, you can rent kayaks and paddle boards, play on a water obstacle course, and even learn to scuba dive. The best part about it? Tickets for adults are only $10 until March, and children get in for free. General admission prices will go up the 1 of March. Check out my drone footage of this place below.
While general admission gives you access to the lagoon and basic amenities, including the swim-up bar, beach toys, beach volleyball, and a slide, you can buy extras while you're there, such as additional equipment rental, cabanas, and beach umbrellas --to name just a few.
Basically what I'm trying to say is, come as you are and leave your beach chairs at home, you won't have to lug around any heavy bags because you'll have everything you need to relax in style already here. Of course, food and drinks are available on site as well; so go ahead and have your cheeseburger in paradise.
The lagoon hosts daily events here too. Sometimes they have yoga classes, trivia nights, bingo, and so much more. You can see their calendar of events here.
If you want to ensure you will have access to the lagoon the day you want to go, you should purchase tickets online prior --otherwise, you can buy a ticket on site when you get there! And if you just can't stand the thought of leaving, you will be pleased to know there are homes for sale in the community and living here gives you free admission to the lagoon. You can visit their official website to learn more and buy tickets here.
