Consider yourself a connoisseur of all the paranormal locations in Florida? A record-setting ghost hunt will make its way back to the Sunshine State this fall, taking place at a location that's been featured on the Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures! On the last Saturday of the month in September, also known as National Ghost Hunting Day, History & Haunts and War Party Paranormal invite 40 patrons out to be apart of the World's Largest Ghost Hunt for another year at Yesteryear Village to investigate Riddle House. Alongside a list of other participating locations across the world, those investigating the Riddle House as a part of the World's Largest Ghost Hunt will simultaneously investigate their area's participating property to set the 2023 record. You'll also have access to War Party Paranormal's array of equipment as they lead you on the hunt down the home's haunted halls. Built in 1905, Riddle House was once known as the Gatekeeper's Cottage, serving as the home a keeper that oversaw care of the Woodlawn Cemetery across the street. First used as a funeral parlor, it later became a private residence before being moved from its original spot at 327 Acacia Street to its now permanent display and historical preservation at West Palm Beach's Yesteryear Village. The home has been the stage of its own share of tragedy too — including a suicide by hanging in the attic as a result of a home employee's insurmountable financial problems during The Great Depression. It's events and chronicling on an episode of the Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures has increased interest in the location, with visitors seeking to wander it in the dark of night.
So what can guests expect while investigating Riddle House?
If it's anything like what the Ghost Adventures team experienced, a lot of unexplainable phenomenon. As seen in Season 1, Episode 4 of Ghost Adventures, investigations into the Riddle House was the series first time bringing on a psychic medium as a part of the investigation. The result? Tons of doors slamming on their own (sometimes locked ones), the sounds of footsteps in rooms that are empty, cold spots that raise arm-hairs on end, and decorations around the house getting thrown or falling over. Aaron Goodwin also hung out in the attic alone to collect electronic voice phenomenon — otherwise known as EVPs — before running out terrified at a huge bird cage appearing to get pushed off a table. Other reports of paranormal activity in the house have included visible apparitions, lights turning themselves off and on, the sound of tools being thrown around in the attic as well as being found on the grounds below, third-floor windows turning up mysteriously broken, investigators being struck by a random piece of wood in the staircase, maintenance workers getting attacked and refusing to work on the property, and even spottings of a hanging torso in the attic window.
Tickets to be a part of the World's Largest Ghost Hunt are $60 per person, with the hunt starting at 8 pm and stretching until midnight for ultimate fright on Saturday, September 30, 2023. Riddle House is located within Yesteryear Village at 601-7 Sansbury's Way in West Palm Beach.
Don't worry if you miss out on the World's Largest Ghost Hunt though; War Party Paranormal will be leading smaller, 30 person tours for only $35 at Riddle House on select dates throughout the year, the first night starting this Saturday, March 25.
