Drone photography has take travel-wanderlust to a whole new height, literally, and Florida isn't short of dreamy travel spots to hit up. So these two things seem like a match made in the heavens, and there's a photographer who's really got this down to a picturesque science.
26-year-old photographer Pierce Gainey, of Florida, has spent the last several years exploring and photographing the state by air with his DJI Mavic 2 Pro and DJI Phantom 4 Pro. He produces some of the most stunning photos at angles rarely seen and shares them for free on his social media with his fans. "I started flying drones about 7 years ago when the DJI Phantom 2 was released. I was always jealous of the birds and the wonderful view they always got so I knew I had to join in on the fun!," he told The Sunburnt Blogger in an interview. "My inspiration comes from the natural beauty of this world and capturing those moments to share with all who want to see. So many people have not been to Florida and I love sharing this paradise we get to live in." And he does a damn good job at it! Over the course of a couple years, his Instagram account has produced over 300 posts and accumulated 26.7k followers. "I try and post three times a week on Instagram. My posting days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday."
But his achievements don't just stop there. His work has been featured in a myriad of publishings, including an Amazon top-selling book, and he's won several photography contests.
âWhile he says it's a fun pastime, he says his overall "goal is to continue to have my photos and videos published." For anyone who would like to get into this sort of photography, he offers some advice: "My advice to someone who is just getting started in flying drones and drone photography would be to practice, practice, practice. You can never have enough practice. Take your drone to a park and fly it often. Get used to the controls and get very comfortable with it. Also, watch youtube videos. there is a wealth of knowledge on youtube. Plus you can always reach out to me and I'd be happy to help too!" As far as his future endeavors go, well, he has plans for that too. "As drones keep progressing, I hope to see myself on the front lines of the new technology and continuing to develop my craft and sharing it with the world." Don't be surprised if you see some of his work on a postcard next time you go to a tourist shop!
