You don't have to go all the way out west to frolic through a dreamy wildflower field; if you want to find a flower field in Florida, Hunsader Farms, located just south of Tampa in Bradenton, has an one that's currently in bloom and ripe for the picking.
From September to June, Hunsader's wildflower and zinna U-pick field is open to the public. It costs $2 per person to get into the field and $5-7 for a cup to take flowers home in; $5 for the styrofoam cup or $7 for the souvenir cup. There is no specific limit to how many wildflowers can be added to the cup, but the more you add, the more top-heavy it gets! If you choose not to buy a cup you can still get into the field and enjoy its beauty, but you won't be allowed to pick any flowers to take home. I opted to go for the $5 cup (which is the same size as the $7 one), and I spent nearly an hour filling it with the "perfect" flowers.
There is also a sunflower field that you can pick from, however, each sunflower is $1. You can either pay ahead if you know how many you want to pick, or when you leave --because, you know, like in my case, you might end up picking more than you thought you would!
If you're paying with card you will have to stop at the farmer's market building to prepay for your entry and cup, but if you come with cash you're encouraged to drive right up to the field and pay the attendants there. The field attendants will provide you with water for your cup, but I suggest stopping at the restrooms after and adding a little more water before you leave!
Protip: BRING SCISSORS! If you don't, you will have a much harder time picking flowers. Also, this might not be the best trip for someone with a bee allergy, as there are many honey bees flying around the flowers.
There were a lot of people at the field while I was there on Saturday around 1p.m., but closer to closing time it started to clear out. Despite the crowds coming and going, there was no shortage of beautiful flowers to choose from.
You can see just how big the field is with my drone footage below.
Hunsader Farms U-pick is located at 5500 C.R. 675 Bradenton, Fl 34211 and is open from Mon-Sat 8a.m.-4p.m. and Sundays 10a.m.-3p.m. Photographers who are using the field for professional photoshoots must pay $50, more info about that here.
