Consider yourself the king or queen of backyard bean-bag tossing and really want to put your skills to the test? A two-division cornhole tournament is returning to Pier 60 in Clearwater Florida this April — and $1000 in prize money is up for the taking. The Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival invites single-players and teams to show off their pro-throws on Saturday, April 8 at 11 am for a chance at taking home up to $500 for first prize. Second place won't be walking away empty handed either, raking in a solid $300. $200 awarded to the third place winner is nothing to snuff at though — especially considering you're simply finessing the art of throwing a bag of beans into a hole drilled into a piece of wood attached to other pieces of wood. If you happen to have a friend you know has perfect the technique of the backyard bag-toss no matter how drunk they get, you may want to consider signing up for the Social Division instead. While competing Social Division teams won't be winning themselves any cash, they will be competing for prizes; however, what those prizes are has yet to be announced. There are some takes though; there is a $25 registration fee to secure your spot in the tournament. Your fee not only buys you into the tourney though, it also enters you into raffles and prize-drawings running throughout the day. Even better? Each player will get a cold, complimentary drink with registration before the games begin. Those participating in the Open Division as a solo cornhole pro will participate in pool play, with match-ups being done round-robin style. Draws for matchups are done randomly, in tourney terms known as 'blind', with each round ending in a double elimination. A similar set of rules applies for the Social Division except there are no blind-draws and you compete for prizes rather than a cash-pool. Social Division eliminations will continue to be double. Boards start getting set up on the sand at 9:30 the morning of Saturday, April 8. Those looking to get a little practice in will will want to line up early, as they'll be able to do so during the registration window between the hours of 10 and 11 am. The tourney will officially kick-off at 11 am. Ready to throw bags in the hopes of taking home the bag? You can sign up to compete here. Admission to the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Fest is $14 per person, with children 3 and under admitted free. The festival will take place over 17 days starting on April 7, ending on April 23. Hours will vary depending on which day you decide to attend. Pier 60 is located at 1 Causeway Boulevard, Clearwater 60.
