As Hurricane Idalia sweeps across the Gulf, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office has been sharing videos of the aftermath since early this morning. "Significant flooding is occurring in St. Pete Beach. There is 3-4 feet of water on Sunset Way. #Idalia," the department wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, around 1:30a.m. accompanied by this video. About 30 minutes later they posted another look at the flooding, this time at Pass-A-Grille Way. And according to the X account of Treasure Island, some intracoastal areas experienced water spilling over the sea wall. Deputies were closing portions of Gulf Boulevard between 129th Avenue and 150th Avenue as early as 1:15a.m. An update recieved by Treasure Island City Hall at 5:15a.m. stated that the bridges are closed around Treasure Island and TIPD will be patrolling the Treasure Island Causeway and restricting access to the island. "Conditions continue to deteriorate on Treasure Island. Storm surge, street flooding, tree limbs down scattered debris, power outages, etc. Please stay sheltered in place as roadways are not safe to drive on. If you have an emergency, call 911. There’s another high tide at 11:30 a.m. which has the possibility of creating more surge and flooding. As soon as it’s safe, TIFR and TIPD crews will begin doing damage assessment on the island," the release stated, in part. While Idalia continues to track north, Pinellas County Emergency Management has issued a warning that storm surge flooding could be worse in many low-lying areas and could continue after winds from Hurricane Idalia have subsided. More on that here.
