If you're in or around the city for the big day, chances are you're probably looking for some cool spots to hit up before and after the event. So, to aid you on your local journey through the city, I have compiled a list of over 10 things to do around Tampa while you're in town for the Super Bowl.
This list will take you on a journey of some of the Bay's best food spots, beaches, and tourist traps. READ ALSO: 5 fun FREE things to do around Tampa when you're totally bored & broke 1. The Riverwalk
When you're bored, broke and totally not ready for bed but everything is closed, you won't want to overlook Tampa's enchanting Riverwalk. It lights up with beautiful colors that reflect off of the water while simultaneously giving you amazing skyline views of the city. This trail is free to visit, and at night, parking is usually also free and plentiful!
2. GenX Tavern
You don't have to be a gen Xer to fully appreciate the retro style of this insanely sweet arcade bar. Their Insta bio says it all, "Bringing back the raddest 80âs + 90âs food, booze and games to the center of Downtown Tampa." You'll also find one of Bake'n Babes locations here.
3. Crystal River
This is the time of year to see massive herds of mermaids --I mean, manatees-- at Crystal River! You can see them from Three Sisters Spring park, or upclose by booking a dive or kayak experience in the area. It's worth the hour drive, believe me.
4. Anclote Island Cruise
It can be pretty overwhelming choosing the best beaches to go to in the area --but if you're someone who loves finding nice shells, then it'll be worth it to buy a cheap sunset cruise ticket from Tarpon Springs to Anclote Key.
5. Tea Time @ Mad Hatters
You can really fall down the rabbit hole at this whimsical spot in St. Pete. Better yet, they're open 24/7, so tea time can be anytime.
6. CPonies Beach Rides
Don't pass up the opportunity to swim into the sunset on horseback. While this is one of the more expensive options on this list, Cponies will take you on a once-in-a-lifetime horseback riding adventure that you'll truly never forget.
7. Burger Culture Tampa
Grab a bite that's bigger than your head at Burger Culture Tampa. Waffle burgers, donut burgers, ramen burgers --this local eatery really knows how to take your favorite sandwich and turn it into a perfectly messy masterpiece.
8. Stop along the Skyway Bridge
While just traversing over the bridge is worth a trip itself, a lot of people don't realize that there are plenty of parking lots along the Skyway Bridge where you can get out and explore or fish from. Since the toll is only a couple of dollars, it's one of the cheaper "beaches" to visit in the area.
9. Oldsmar Flea Market
Thrift shopping is taken to a complete new level at the massive Oldsmar Flea Market. Open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, this massive conglomeration of 200+ vendors will keep you busy thrifting for deals for hours. Chances are, you probably won't even go to every store before being ready to head home. Pro tip: there's a bird store at the end of the flea market where you can go and interact with (sometimes even hold) the parrots for free!
10. Captain Memo's Pirate Ship
Forget the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney, this is the real deal. Set sail on the Gulf Coast's open waters for only $37/adult, and for an extra couple of dollars you can watch the sunset from the ship. Tickets can be purchased here.
11. Poke Burri
If you love sushi, you will not want to pass up the opportunity to try the interesting creations at Poke Burri. Seriously, have you ever had a sushi pizza party before? Thanks to this place, you totally can!
12. Mardi Gras @ Busch Gardens
Yep, it's that time of the year again! Busch Gardens Tampa is hosting their Mardi Gras festivities and it's an event that aligns perfectly with the Super Bowl this year!
13. The Dali Museum
The Dali Museum in St. Pete is cool on it's own, but, they're hosting an immersive Van Gogh event right now that makes it just that much cooler. Plus, it's a great opportunity to check out the St. Pete Pier only a few blocks away!
This is by no means a complete list of things you can (and should) do around the city, but it'll get you started!
Oh, and, let's go Buccs!
